Terms of use

The rules for using mizan.ac, the Mizan API and the Mizan server module, and what you can and can't rely on a record for.

Last updated .

Who runs Mizan

Mizan, at mizan.ac and api.mizan.ac, and the Mizan server module are run by KORDU LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16836154). Its registered office is First Floor Office, 3 Hornton Place, London W8 4LZ. "We" on this page means KORDU LTD.

What Mizan does

Mizan reads the ban lists game communities publish and keeps one record for each player account it finds on them. Anyone can read a record on mizan.ac, and organizations that run game servers can read records through the API.

Communities can also install the Mizan server module on their game servers. It sends how each player aims and moves to Mizan's detection service, which tells the community's staff what it finds.

A record is the lists' claims

Each ban on a record belongs to the community that published it. We copy what its list says. We don't check whether the ban was deserved, and a ban on one community's list means nothing about any other server.

Read a record as what other communities have said about an account, and make your own decisions. Don't present a record as proof that someone cheated or broke a rule. A player who thinks a ban is wrong can dispute it; the disputes page explains how.

Using mizan.ac

You need to be 13 or older to make an account on mizan.ac.

  • Look up any player. Lookups are limited per connection; if one is refused, wait a minute and try again.
  • Don't copy the site in bulk with scripts. Use the API, which exists for that and has its own limits.
  • Don't try to get around rate limits, break the site or reach anything that isn't public.
  • Don't use a record to harass, threaten or publicly shame the person it's about.

Organizations and the API

An organization uses the API with its own key. The organization is responsible for what is done with its key, so keep it on your own servers and don't share it.

  • Use answers to decide who plays on your own servers and to moderate your own community.
  • Stay within the rate limits, and don't use several keys to get past them.
  • Don't resell answers, or use them to publish a copy of the registry.
  • If your organization adds bans, add only bans your own staff gave on your own servers, keep each one accurate, and end it through the API when you lift it or an appeal succeeds.

We can suspend an organization or revoke a key when these terms are broken or a key is being misused. A suspended organization's requests are refused.

The Mizan server module

The Mizan server module is the native module a community installs on its game servers, and the loader that starts it. This section is its licence.

We give your community a licence to install and run the module on the game servers registered to it on mizan.ac, while your community exists and keeps to these terms. The licence isn't exclusive, and you can't transfer it or sublicense it. Each server has its own key: keep it on that server and don't share it.

Except to the extent the law allows it and doesn't let a contract exclude it, you must not:

  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the module, or try to work out its source code
  • modify it, or run it changed in any way
  • copy it, except to install it on your community's servers and keep backups
  • give, sell, rent or lend it to anyone, or publish it
  • get around, turn off or interfere with anything that protects it or its data, such as its key, its build checks or its encrypted link to the detection service
  • use it, or anything you learn from it, to build or test cheats, or to evade detection or a ban
  • send the detection service anything the module didn't produce, or use another server's key

UK law gives a lawful user of a program these rights, and section 296A of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 makes any contract term that stops them void:

  • to make a backup copy they need (section 50A)
  • to decompile it to make an independent program work with it, when the conditions in section 50B are met
  • to observe, study and test how it works while running it (section 50BA)

Articles 5 and 6 of the EU Software Directive (2009/24/EC) give the same rights in the EU. Nothing in these terms takes them away. Research done under our security policy is also allowed.

When you turn on the module's link to the detection service, it sends us data about your players. The data processing agreement sets out how we handle it for you, and accepting these terms accepts that agreement too.

We release new versions of the module, and the detection service can stop accepting older ones. We can revoke a server's key, or suspend or end your community's licence, if you break these terms, a key is being misused, or running the module puts players or Mizan at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you why first. You can end the licence at any time by removing the module and deleting your community. When the licence ends, stop running the module and delete every copy of it.

Your responsibilities when you act on a record

When your organization refuses, kicks or bans a player because of a record, that decision is yours. You may be the controller of the data you keep about your own players, with your own duties under data protection law.

Data your community keeps on Mizan

Your community's dashboard holds records about your players: the joins your servers report, your staff's notes, flags and warnings, alt decisions, Discord links, appeals and evidence files. The Mizan server module sends your players' aim and movement for detection. Your community decides what goes in and why, so for these records it is the controller and we process them for it. The rest of Mizan, including the registry and Mizan's answers about a player, is ours, and the privacy policy covers it.

Our data processing agreement is part of these terms. It sets out what we do with your community's records, what we promise about them, and what you're responsible for, including having a lawful basis for them and telling your players about them.

No guarantee

Mizan, including the server module, is provided as it is. Lists change, readers fail and a record can be out of date or wrong. We don't promise that a record is complete or accurate, or that the site and the API will always be available. We can change or stop any part of Mizan.

Liability

We aren't liable for decisions you or anyone else make using a record, or for losses that come from Mizan being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

If you use mizan.ac as a consumer, rather than for an organization, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Changes and law

We update this page when the terms change, and the date at the top shows the current version. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts deal with any dispute about them.
